2013 Winter fashion trends

Winter weather has now firmly established itself here in New Zealand, the days are getting colder and and our summer wardrobes are slowly becoming less wearable. A new set of Fashion trends has arrived for the change of season and it's time to take a look at how we can integrate them into your existing wardrobe without causing too much of a dent in your funds.

For me the beginning of a fresh season usually leaves me feeling like I have nothing to wear or questioning what the hell did I wear this time last year. As soon as the weather changes my wardrobe seems completely outdated and useless to me. Feel the same?...fear not! You don't need an entirely new wardrobe you just need to inject it with a bit of new. Here's how you can do it without bankrupting yourself each season.

Start by stocktaking your staples...

These are the items you feel most comfortable in, the ones you can't get dressed without and your 'go-to' pieces. You don't need much, for me it's jeans (black and blue), black and white tees and a cardigan or two. It's nothing outrageous just something to build on. If you haven't got your staples under control do this before doing anything else with your wardrobe, if they need updating then replace them. Don't be afraid to buy the exact same item over and over again if you know it works for you, i have 3 pairs of black pants all identical cause they fit well, look good and i know I'm gonna thrash them. Don't be scared to spend a little more on your staples as they'll see you through from season to season. Once you get those basics right everything else will fall into place.

Now lets add some on trend pieces...

This is where you pick out the best of the new season trends to update your wardrobe and make it wearable again. Make sure you pick the trends you like the most and pieces you know will look good on you, don't be a slave to the trends this is where many go wrong, just cause its in fashion doesn't mean it will look good on you.
My suggestion for how you can easily do this from the comfort of your couch...many of the top fashion retailers give trend overviews each season on their websites. I find ASOS and Boohoo do a great job of this, you don't need to worry about the difference in seasons between the northern and southern hemispheres the same trends will still apply. I tend to spend less money on trend pieces as they come and go and I know I won't be wearing them for too long. Most of the chain stores are pretty quick at stocking new trends and provide cheap alternatives to the uber expensive designer brands.

There are a couple of things I keep in mind when buying on trend pieces from chain stores...
  • Is it versatile and easy to wear? Think about what it will work with in your wardrobe, how many outfits will it make?
  • Is it comfortable and does it fit well? Don't just go by the tag size go by how it fits you, if your normally a 10 and you need a 12 or even a 14 who cares all stores have different sizing and no one but you ever sees the tag but everyone will see how your garment fits you.
  • Does it suit your shape and colouring? Check out this old post of mine if your not sure how to determine what colours suit you Complement your complexion with colours
  • Is the fabric and construction quality worthy of the price tag and the length of time I'll wear the item? Check the stitching and feel the fabric to determine it's quality.
This checklist should hopefully prevent you from being disappointed by chain store purchases.

Let's have a look at some of these exciting new trends.

Women’s Fashion Trends for Fall 2013

I’ve got some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that summer is coming to a close. But the good news is…..it’s time to shop for fall essentials! Of course, this is probably only good news for you and not your husband or credit card, but you can conquer that later when you’re looking tough in your new leather jacket and killer booties!
In the mean time, let’s talk shop…after all, we can’t let the men have all the fun. Sooooo I basically want everything pictured above (surprise, surprise). No really, I do (Mr. RC, are you listening?!). But if I just had to pick one item I’m craving the most for fall, I’d have to say a black leather jacket (I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect one for years now). A close second would be someblack booties, followed by a chunky gold chain necklace (because this would obviously making every outfit look monumentally better). I’ve never been a fan of the camo print, but this blue version is making me want to give it a try. I’m also really intrigued by the cork accessories popping up (pun totally not intended but it works so I’m rolling with it), leading me to the conclusion that I need to drink more wine so I can make myself some cork goodies. It should be noted that I have no idea how to make a clutch or heels out of corks, but maybe if I drink enough wine, I will! And of course, I can’t end this discussion without talking about how trendy crewneck sweatshirts are, because as much as I love my heels, Chanel, and fancy jewelry, at the end of the day, I’m just a girl who wants to be comfortable (if it wasn’t for this blog I might still be roaming around in baggy sweats and oversized tees….yikes-a-bee!). Enough about what I’m looking forward to buying, what women’s fashion trends for fall are you excited to try out?
P.S. If you’re a guy looking for fall trends, or you ladies want to know how to dress your man, don’t forget to check out Mr. RC’s post from Monday!

5 Fabulous & Sexy Styles For Denim In 2013

Since the day you got acquainted with denims, can you recall a single moment, when they were out of style? Well, neither can we! Denim has been in vogue ever since the day it was first worn. What a lucky person who got to wear the very first pair of jeans that was invented! On that note why we are going to have a look at the most popular denim jean trends 2013.

Jeans are defined by their comfort, practicality, versatility and fashion.
Jeans are probably the only apparel that you can wear anywhere. You can team it up with a t-shirt for a casual look or with a buttoned shirt for a formal look with a blazer. You can wear short denims for a flirty look and you can even wear denims for an evening out with a corset top for a chic look.
Denims go with every accessory there is and with every kind of shoe known to us. They can be elegant, sexy, edgy, chic, tough, all at once or with different looks. That’s why we love our jeans.
Here’s presenting to you the Top 5 Denim Trends for 2013 to add a fresh and fashionable zing to your favorite clothing item.
1. Colored Denims 2013
Colored Denims made an appearance in early 2012. The style didn’t create much of a rage at the outset but has kicked in for good this fall/winter. Out of every 10 people on the street wearing denims, you will see at least 6 wearing coloured denims. Our celebrities love them too, especially, red denims, red being the hottest color of the season. Besides red, you’ve got electric blue, green, pink, orange, yellow and so many more bright colors to choose from to spruce up your wardrobe.

2. The White Denim 2013
White Denims are great for the fact that you can pair them up with vibrantly coloured t-shirts and blouses with vivid prints. The white denim balances the vividness of your attire and makes for one chic look.
Looking for a style tip? White denims look best paired with boots and ballerinas.
3. Flared Denims 2013
The popular style from the 70s is back. Flared denims are back in vogue. Flared denims are not as wide as bell bottoms but they are certainly much wider than the straight cut jeans. If you have a pair of flared denims that you hid at the back of your closet when it went out of style, it’s time to bring it back.
4. Tie Waist Jeans 2013
Tie Waist Jeans have a very cute and sexy appeal to them. This is one style you will surely fall in love with and want to own for its cuteness factor. Well, then go ahead, get some tie waist jeans and also get some short tops to go with it or t-shirts that you can tuck into the jeans.
5. Printed Denims 2013
Some of us love prints while some of us are defined by prints. You can drive up your obsession for prints by investing in a pair of printed denims. Among printed denims, the prints that are in vogue are floral prints, animal prints and polka dotted denims.

Besides the styles showcased above for fashion 2013, the classic blue denim (which deserves this worthy mention) hasn’t gone out of style and probably never will. So always be faithful to a pair of classy blue denims. Denims bring out your character boldly. And they define you, which is why a few pairs of denims are the most essential wardrobe requirement.
